Why Joe Biden Should Help the Rohingya People of Myanmar

Then the Myanmar Army attacked and massacred ethnic Rohingya civilians in 2017, more than 700,000 men, women, and children fled to Bangladesh, some riddled with bullets, burns, and gaping wounds. Hundreds of villages were in ashes, razed by soldiers and their civilian proxies.

But long after the physical wounds scarred over, Rohingya continue to suffer mental harm on a massive scale. President-elect Biden can and should do something about it.

Significant changes unlikely but there may be development on Rohingya issue, according to experts

Leaders of ruling Awami League believe Bangladesh-US bilateral ties will be strengthened during the tenure of Joe Biden, newly elected president of the US, but diplomats and international affairs experts think the relationship between the two countries will be the same.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated US president-elect Joe Biden and vice-president-elect Kamala Harris through separate messages on Sunday.

If elected, Biden likely to focus on human rights

The Daily Star

Experts believe he will give priority to Rohingya issue, strengthening democracy across the globe

Potential US President Joe Biden's foreign policy will emphasise on strengthening democracy and human rights globally -- a shift from that of incumbent President Donald Trump who focused on trade, said international relations analysts at Washington, DC.

As part of that, Biden will also put pressure on Myanmar, which has a bad human rights record, especially in its treatment of Rohingyas and some other ethnic groups, they said.
