Myanmar-Asean team urges refugees




A joint delegation of Myanmar and the Asean yesterday met a group of some 40 Rohingya representatives to convince them to return to Rakhine, from where they fled a brutal military crackdown in 2017.

The 15-member delegation includes nine officials from Myanmar and six officials from the Emergency Response and Assessment team of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).

DHAKA, Bangladesh – A team from the office of the International Criminal Court prosecutor was in Bangladesh on Wednesday, March 6, for a preliminary probe into alleged atrocities committed against the Rohingya by the Myanmar military in 2017.

A team of International Criminal Court (ICC) arrives today for a week-long visit for “preliminary investigation” into forced deportations of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar into Bangladesh.

Chief ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda is leading the seven-member team, which will visit Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar and speak with refugees.
