20 children missing after fire at Rohingya refugee camp

Thousands have been rendered homeless and about 20 children have gone missing after a fire broke out on March 5 at a refugee camp on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.

The fire started on the afternoon of March 5 in Ward 11 of the Balukhali refugee camp, located in Ukhiya Upazila, Cox’s Bazar District, Bangladesh. It lasted for two hours and resulted in injuries to 50 residents of the camp, according to local sources.

The Balukhali refugee camp was originally made up of around 8,000 shelters housing refugees from northern Rakhine State.

Fire broke out on Tuesday at the H-2 block of the Rohingya Balukhali camp-9 next to Panbazar in Ukhiya, Cox’s BazarProthom Alo

A fire broke out on Tuesday at the Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, destroying 63 homes. Around 4 to 5 persons were injured in the fire. Their identity has not been known as yet.

The Rohingyas said that the fire probably started from a gas cylinder. With Eid ahead, the Rohingya families were preparing all sorts of rice cakes and other special food items and that is when the fire broke out, they feel.

The fire started on Tuesday evening at the H-2 black of Balukhali camp-9 next to Ukhiya Panbazar.

The fire was completely doused and no casualties were reported

A fire broke out at a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila again.

The incident occurred at the Balukhali refugee camp no 9 at around 2:30pm on Monday.

A madarasa facility was gutted in the fire. No casualties or major damage was reported in the fire.
