Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said the 1.1 million Rohingyas, who were given shelter in Bangladesh after they fled from Myanmar in the face of persecution, were not only a threat to the security for this country but also the region.

New Delhi, Aug 8 Bangladesh on Thursday cautioned that the Rohingya crisis could emerge as a threat to peace and security in the region and pressed for its early resolution by repatriating the refugees to their home country.

Addressing a conference on ''Tackling Insurgent Ideologies'', Syed Muazzem Ali, Bangladesh''s High Commissioner to India, hoped for an immediate and effective implementation of the agreement signed between Myanmar and the United Nations to resolve the crisis.
