Rohingya youth killed in ‘gunfight’ with BGB at Ghumdhum border

The alleged gunfight took place in the early hours of Friday

A Rohingya youth named Mohammad Ibrahim was killed reportedly in a gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members on Bangladesh-Myanmar border at Ghumdhum in Naikhongchhari, an upazila in Bandarban adjacent to Cox's Bazar district.

BGB says the deceased was a yaba peddler. He was from Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

'We need a chance to change our future, and education is the only way'

The Rohingya community needs access to education facilities to become empowered and build a future, Rohingya youths from the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar said at a webinar on Monday.

The webinar, titled “Camp voices webinar series-3: Strengths and aspirations of Rohingya refugees,” was arranged by the Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ) of Brac University. The discussion addressed key issues related to the role of the youth in building peace, social cohesion, livelihoods, and education for Rohingya children and girls.

Rohingya youth shot dead in Teknaf.

The incident took place at the Shalbagan Rohingya camp in Nayapara 

A Rohingya youth was shot dead by miscreants at the Shalbagan Rohingya camp of Nayapara in Teknaf on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hamid, 36, son of Md Hossain.

Inspector of Nayapara police outpost Abdus Salam said a gang of miscreants took Hamid to a nearby hill at gunpoint and killed him.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
