The figures are sketchy but according to a local media report several dozen Muslim Rohingya women are caught up in a Catch-22 situation in Pathein Prison. Their circumstances provide a window on the dire circumstances for many Rohingya in a country that does not recognize them as citizens.

The passport broker managed to evade arrest

A Rohingya woman was caught by the police while attempting to obtain Bangladeshi passport with counterfeit documents.

She was apprehended at the local passport office in Munshiganj around 4pm on Sunday.

The woman, Bibija, 18, was lured by one Kamrul to the passport office. However, he fled from the office, abandoning Bibija.
