Hissein Brahim Taha says organization working for safe, dignified repatriation of Rohingya to their home country

The chief of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh's southern border district of Cox's Bazar to assess the living conditions of the persecuted community, according to official and local sources.

The secretary general of the world's biggest Islamic platform, Hissein Brahim Taha, exchanged views with the Rohingya refugees at Ukhia camp in Cox's Bazar, saying the organization is always active in protecting the interests of the persecuted Rohingya.

ARSA member hacked to death in Ukhiya Rohingya refugee camp

A member of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was beaten and hacked to death during an attack on Balukhali shelter camp in Ukhiya Upazila of Cox's Bazar. Three other people were shot by ARSA at the time. The incident took place in the G-1 block of Balukhali-13 Rohingya shelter camp in Ukhiya on Saturday night.

The deceased ARSA member was not identified immediately. The three people who were shot are Ramida Khatun, mother of Hossain Ahmed of G-1 block in Ukhia Balukhali-13 Rohingya shelter camp and Hossain’s two sons Rafiq, 25 and Zubair, 18.

Bangladesh launches a campaign of raids in the Rohingya refugee camps against the elements "criminal"

Elite Bangladesh police forces have launched a crackdown on criminals and suspected insurgents in Rohingya refugee camps, following an upsurge in attacks on camp officials, police officials said Sunday.

The “armed police battalion” in charge of security in 34 camps housing about one million Rohingya refugees said it had arrested at least 56 people since Friday night.

About 740,000 Rohingya fled to Bangladesh to escape a military campaign against them in Myanmar in 2017, joining more than 200,000 Rohingya who were previously in camps in Cox’s Bazar, southeastern Bangladesh.

Criminals shot dead two Rohingya men after picking them up from their houses in the refugee camp of Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar early today (October 27, 2022).

The deceased are Ayat Ullah (40) and Mohammad Yeasin (30).

With them, at least seven Rohingya men including a child were shot dead in Cox's Bazar this month.

Today's shooting took place at Block-C in Balukhali camp around 3:30am, said Syed Harun-or-Rashid, commanding officer of Armed Police Battalion-14.

The Armed Police Battalion has arrested four accused in the case filed over the killing of two people in a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.

The APBn arrested Shamsu Alam, Rashid Ahmed, Mahbubur Rahman and Nazir Ahmed at camps 13 and 19 on Tuesday.

APBn’s Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Faruq Ahmed confirmed the matter.

A group of unidentified men attacked Maulvi Md Yunus and Anwar Hossain at Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar on Saturday night.

Bangladesh starts COVID-19 vaccine drive for Rohingya refugees

DHAKA, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Bangladesh began vaccinating thousands of Rohingya Muslims on Tuesday in the world’s largest refugee settlement amid a surge in COVID-19 infections in the country, officials said.

Aid workers have long warned of a potential humanitarian disaster if there is a significant outbreak in the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, the border district where over a million Rohingya who fled a brutal military crackdowns in neighbouring Myanmar have found sanctuary.
