Ready to surrender, top yaba smuggler Saiful in police custody

“Yaba Don Saiful Karim landed in Dhaka around 11pm on Saturday”

Top yaba smuggler Saiful Karim — mostly known by his initials “SK” among yaba smugglers and dealers across the country — is apparently ready to surrender to police, according to a source in the law enforcement agency.

The “Yaba Don” may have been on the run since May last year, after the government kicked off its crackdown on drug smugglers and dealers, but he has eluded the police for around two decades since joining drug dealing .

Six arrested with 85,000 yaba pills

Police in separate drives arrested six people including three Rohingyas and seized 85,000 yaba
tablets from their possession in Chattogram city on Wednesday night and yesterday morning.

The three Rohingyas were identified as Abu Taher, 22, Md Ismail, 28, and Md Mubarak, 27, hailing from
Teknaf Jadimura Rohingya Camp. They were arrested with 50,000 yaba tablets from Bridge Ghat area.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted the drive around 10pm on Wednesday, said Md Mohsin,
officer-in-charge(OC) of Kotwali Police Station.

Other arrestees -- Md Mamun, 24, Jubaer, 18, and Abu Bakar Siddique, 20 -- are residents of the city's
Firingi Bazar area. They had 35,000 yaba tablets while they were going to Chattogram from Teknaf on
a microbus at 8am, said OC Mohsin.

“During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they carried the yaba tablets from Teknaf to
sell those in Chattogram city and other parts of the country,” he added.

2 Rohingya men held with Yaba in Chandpur

Chandpur, Mar 29 (UNB) – Police arrested two Rohingya men along with 1500 Yaba pills from Kacha Colony in the district town on Thursday.

The arrestees are Mizanur Rahman and Mohammad Russel.

When the two young men were moving around suspiciously a team of police challenged them and recovered the Yaba pills after searching their bodies, said Nasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station.

A case was filed in this connection.

Myanmar police seize massive haul of meth pills

Myanmar authorities seized more than 10 million meth pills worth $13.3 million over the weekend, police said Monday, another massive haul in a country widely believed to be the world's largest methamphetamine producer.

High-grade crystal meth -- or 'ice' -- is smuggled out of Myanmar via sophisticated networks to lucrative developed markets as far away as Japan, South Korea and Australia.

Some 102 Bangladeshi meth dealers have surrendered to authorities at a pre-scheduled ceremony in a coastal town, officials said Saturday, as a Philippines-style anti-narcotics crackdown sows fear among kingpins.

Bangladesh last year launched a "war" on drugs following a proliferation of illegal substances in the South Asian nation of 165 million people, mostly of cheap methamphetamine pills known as "yaba".
