Immigration busts Rohingya smuggling ring

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department busted a Rohingya migrant smuggling syndicate in a special operation around Kota Baru, Kelantan.

Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the operation on Sunday led to the arrest of 10 people, including Ali, a Rohingya man suspected to be the syndicate’s mastermind, as well as two alleged “tekong darat” (ground coordinators).

Immigration Comes Out With Warning To Rohingyas To Stay Off Malaysian Shores

  Some are saying that it’s inhumane to treat to the Rohingya in that manner.
The Malaysian Immigration Department today has come out with a warning to illegal immigrants, particularly the Rohingya to stay away from the country.

Complete with a poster very much like that of an action movie, featuring officers in uniform, the message was posted on social media platforms signaling the intent of denying Rohingyas entry and refuge in the country.

UNHCR cardholders and Rohingya won't be sent home, says Immigration DG

PETALING JAYA: No holders of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards or those from the Rohingya ethnic group will be sent home in the upcoming repatriation programme, says Immigration director-general, Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

"The Immigration Department refers to various media reports regarding the repatriation programme on Feb 23 using Myanmar Navy boats.

"No holders of UNHCR cards or Rohingya will be involved in this programme. This is a part of the regular repatriation exercises carried out by Immigration depots," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 15). 

He added that those being sent back had offences such as not having identification documents, overstaying, and improper use of travel passes.
