Kachin resistance takes control of rare earth mining hub

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied People’s Defense Force (PDF) took control of Pangwa, which is located along the China-Burma border and 114 miles (183 km) northeast of the Kachin State capital Myitkyina, on Saturday. Pangwa is the capital of the Kachin Special Region 1, which is administered by the Kachin Border Guard Force (BGF).

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has sought continued support of the European Union (EU) including Italy to ensure safe, dignified and sustainable return of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas.

“The Bangladesh prime minister also expressed thanks to the EU including Italy for their support to the cause of the Rohingyas,” said a nine-point joint statement issued on the outcomes of bilateral talks between Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte in Rome on Wednesday.

Dhaka, Feb 7 : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought continued support of the European Union (EU) to ensure safe, dignified, and sustainable return of the displaced Rohingya refugees back to Myanmar, a media report said on Friday. 

"The Bangladesh Prime Minister thanked the EU members, including Italy, for their support to the cause of the Rohingya," The Daily Star newspaper quoted a joint statement issued on Thursday after talks between Hasina and her Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte in Rome, as saying.
