Hasan Mahmud seeks OIC's continuous support for Rohingya repatriation

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud has sought continuous support from the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to ensure the safe and sustainable repatriation of nearly 1.3 million forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Myanmar.

Gambia hailed for defending Rohingya people

The 57 Member states of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) have and appreciated the pioneering role played by The Gambia in defending the Rohingya at the level of the International Court of Justice.

“The Summit also reaffirmed the OIC’s support for the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to self-determination, as well as the special attention the OIC attaches to Muslim communities and minorities in Member States, especially to the issue of the Rohingya Muslim community,” the OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha said during his closing remark of the 15th OIC Summit in Banjul on Sunday.

The Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan ( BRAJ) has released a statement condemning the Myanmar junta’s conscription of Rohingya civilians into the army.

Below is the 16 April BRAJ statement:

The Burmese Rohingya Association in Japan ( BRAJ) is outraged, deeply concerned and condemns the forced conscription of Rohingya men into the brutal Burmese military regime services and forcing vulnerable Rohingya civilians to take part in the regime-orchestrated protests against Arakan Army (AA) in some parts of Arakan, which were aiming to destroy unity and to divide people along ethnic and religious lines.

DHAKA: Bangladesh on Thursday welcomed a consensus on a UN resolution related to the repatriation to Myanmar of the 1.2 million Rohingya refugees it has sheltered for the past six years.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslim refugees who fled a military crackdown in Myanmar in 2017 have sought shelter in neighboring Bangladesh.

Mobilizing Support for the Rohingya Crisis: Malaysia's Call to OIC and ASEAN

Malaysia Advocates for Rohingya Assistance

Malaysia has called upon the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for a united front in addressing the Rohingya crisis. The appeal was made by Malaysian Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, who expressed the urgency for the two organizations to call for a de-escalation of violence in Myanmar, particularly from its military authorities. The call was made during an OIC meeting held concurrently with the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar held a meeting in New York on 19 September 2023 on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, under the chairmanship of the OIC Secretary-General Mr Hissein Brahim Taha. In his speech at the meeting, the Secretary-General recalled that 25 August marks the sixth anniversary of the heinous attack unleashed against the Rohingya by the Myanmar army, leading to the influx of large numbers of refugees from Rakhine state to neighboring countries, especially Bangladesh. He extolled the generosity and solidarity exhibited by Bangladesh in hosting more than a million refugees. He renewed the call to the international community to intensify efforts towards finding a sustainable solution to this logjam. The Secretary-General briefed the meeting about the outcome of his 30 May 2023 visit to Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh.

OIC Urges Global Action for Safe Return of Rohingya Refugees

August 25, 2023 marked the sixth anniversary of genocide against Rohingya Muslims and their forced mass displacement and other communities from Myanmar’s Rakhine State and the beginning of huge refugee influx of these people to Bangladesh.

The OIC stands with the victims and survivors of this human tragedy and reiterates its commitment to pursue justice and accountability for the atrocities committed by the Myanmar military, especially at the International Court of Justice.

Calls for Rohingya return grow as UN rights body adopts resolution

UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has called for early repatriation of Rohingyas by creating a conducive environment.

A resolution in this regard was adopted by consensus at the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Friday.

It stressed the need for a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis, by creating a conducive environment in Rakhine for repatriation and by ensuring justice and accountability for the persecuted people, the Bangladesh mission in Geneva said.
