More and more Myanmar troops are seeking refuge in Bangladesh. Dhaka can use this situation to its advantage.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel detain Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) and security forces seeking refuge in Cox’s Bazar district in Banglades

On February 6, 264 members of Myanmar’s border and security forces took shelter in Bangladesh to escape heavy fighting between Myanmar’s army and the Arakan Army. They were disarmed by the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and taken to a safe shelter. Those who sustained critical injuries were given treatment at local hospitals.

Two Myanmar Soldiers Taken to the Hague After Confessing to Rohingya Killings: Reports

(Reuters) - Two Myanmar soldiers have been taken to The Hague after confessing to murdering minority Rohingya Muslims during a 2017 crackdown, two news organisations and a rights group reported on Tuesday.

The two men admitted to killing dozens of villagers in northern Rakhine state and burying them in mass graves, according to the New York Times, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the non-profit Fortify Rights, citing statements the men made on videos filmed in Myanmar this year.

The two soldiers confess their crimes in a monotone, a few blinks of the eye their only betrayal of emotion: executions, mass burials, village obliterations and rape.

The August 2017 order from his commanding officer was clear, Pvt. Myo Win Tun said in video testimony. “Shoot all you see and all you hear.”

AA and locals accuse Tatmadaw soldiers of torching homes in Buthidaung Township

Some houses being set ablaze in Kuntaung Village, Buthidaung Township.

The Arakan Army (AA) stated on October 8 that a faction of No 22 Tatmadaw troop burned down homes in Nwar Yone Taung and Kun Taung villages in Buthidaung Township on October 3 and 4.

U Hla Shwe, Buthidaung Township’s administrator, confirmed that the houses in Kun Taung village were destroyed by fire on October 4, while U Aung Thaung Shwe, a member of the Pyithu Hluttaw, also said that he saw from Zedi Taung village a group of Tatmadaw soldiers set fires in Kun Taung village.
