Shootout in Ukhiya Rohingya camp, 6 arrested

A shootout took place in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar yesterday.

"A shootout took place between a group of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) members and their anti-group in the camp on Wednesday (1 November) afternoon. After sensing of police presence, they started firing at us. We also fired back," Armed Police Battalion-14 (APbn) Captain Mohammad Iqbal said.

ARSA member hacked to death in Ukhiya Rohingya refugee camp

A member of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was beaten and hacked to death during an attack on Balukhali shelter camp in Ukhiya Upazila of Cox's Bazar. Three other people were shot by ARSA at the time. The incident took place in the G-1 block of Balukhali-13 Rohingya shelter camp in Ukhiya on Saturday night.

The deceased ARSA member was not identified immediately. The three people who were shot are Ramida Khatun, mother of Hossain Ahmed of G-1 block in Ukhia Balukhali-13 Rohingya shelter camp and Hossain’s two sons Rafiq, 25 and Zubair, 18.

100 makeshift houses gutted at Ukhia Rohingya camp fire

At least 100 makeshift houses were gutted in a fire at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar this morning.

The fire broke out at block-H of Rohingya camp no-1 located at Lombashiaghona around 8:55am, said Mohammad Imdadul Islam, an official of Ukhia Fire Service Station.

On information, four fire-fighting units from Ukhia , Rampu, Teknaf and Cox's Bazar rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after two hours of frantic efforts, said Imdadul.

UNHCR gives buses for students in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar city

UN refugee agency UNHCR donated five buses for students of local colleges in Ukhiya and Cox’s Bazar city.

The gesture is part of the agency’s appreciation of the local community’s role in responding to the Rohingya influx since August 2017, UNHCR said in a statement.
