4 Muslims youths from Sittwe sold to human traffickers

Four Muslim youths hailing from Sittwe township of Rakhine State were sold to the human traffickers even though a broker wrongly claimed that they would get jobs, alleged by the family members.

The youths have been identified as Mar Mauk Solin (16) from Owntawgyi (north) Muslim refugee camp, Halaya and Soyouk Tamin from Khaung Dukkar village and Tahay from Bodufa village.

Key human trafficker dies in jail

Lt Gen Manas Kongpan, a convict in the country's largest human-trafficking case, died of heart attack at Medical Correctional Hospital on Wednesday night.

Sources said that Lt Gen Manas, a former army adviser and native of the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, had a heart attack while exercising on the eight floor of the hospital. He was pronounced dead at around 8pm on Wednesday.

Earlier he had had hypertension, high cholesterol and bradycardia and been admitted to the hospital.

She fled home to escape violence. Now she's been lost at sea for two months

(CNN)Noor Kayas fled the refugee camp without telling anyone at home.

At sea the next morning, the teenager used a satellite phone to call her mother, Gule Jaan, 43, to say she was heading for Malaysia on a small wooden boat, packed with 87 Rohingya refugees, including 65 women and girls.

Some were fleeing what their families say is the increased risk of sexual assault and rape during the pandemic in the sprawling refugee camps of Cox's Bazar, in Bangladesh, home to more than 1 million displaced people.
