THE events occurring in Burma, where numerous street demonstrations have not subsided against the military, which took power into its own hands on February 1, 2021, continue to attract intense attention. The fact is that although a change from civilian to military power has taken place, it is absolutely unclear how events will further develop: whether the military will be able to retain power or, under the pressure of mass demonstrations and a split in its own ranks, Aung San Suu Kyi and her party members will return to power.

Intense fighting this week between Myanmar forces and the rebel Arakan Army (AA) in Rakhine state's Buthidaung and Rathedaung townships has displaced 2,000 villagers, raising the prospect of additional food and water shortages in the war-torn region, relief and disaster management workers said Wednesday.

Myanmar to work more closely with Bangladesh


Myanmar President Win Myint has expressed his interest to work more closely with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to address common challenges of the two countries for the mutual benefit of the people.

The president of Myanmar has congratulated the premier and her party Bangladesh Awami League on the landslide victory in the recent parliamentary elections and laid emphasis on strengthening relations between the two countries.
