LETTER: The continued mass killing of civilians by the Myanmar security forces requires firm and quick action by the international community.

On March 14, at least 60 civilians were killed by security forces and the death tolls continue rising on March 15 too.

Martial law was declared in Hlaing Tharyar, Shwe Pyithar, South Dagon, North Dagon, Dagon Harbour and North Okkalapa Townships and violence against protesters continued in other districts in Yangon, many of them lower-income areas. At the same time the military continues to frequently block internet access in order to hide its crimes and prevent protesters from organizing.

Christian Solidarity Worldwide: hopes of democracy have been ‘dashed’ 

THE hopes raised by the 2015 elections and elevation of Aung San Suu Kyi have been “dashed”, as genocide and crimes against humanity — rather than democratisation — have occurred in Burma, Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) warned this week.

“Abuse of human rights continue, and peace seems further away than ever,” a new report by CSW, Burma’s identity crisis: How ethno-religious nationalism has led to religious intolerance, crimes against humanity and genocide, concludes.

Burma Human Rights Network calls on military to immediately cease operations against civilian areas of state

ANKARA 

The London-based Burma Human Rights Network (BHRN) called on Myanmar’s military Wednesday to immediately cease operations in civilian areas of Rakhine state.

“In this conflict, the Burmese military is proving again that they have no concern for human life or the safety of civilians," said a statement by BHRN’s Executive Director, Kyaw Win.

"This is especially true of minorities in the country, and the ethnic Rakhine and Rohingya living in Rakhine state are evidence of this inhumane disregard," Win said.
