2019 International Woman of Courage Awardee -

The San Diego Diplomacy Council hosted one of the 2019 Secretary of State International Women of Courage Awardees. Naw K'nyaw Paw is a human rights activist from Burma who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and courage. Her organisation was the first, and one of the few, in Burma to publicly condemn the military-led violence against the Rohingya people.

During her visit she will be meeting with local professional counterparts, elected officials, schools and community members to share experiences, ideas on how to empower best women in Burma and in the US

First Lady Melania Trump recognized 10 women from across the globe in this year’s International Women of Courage Awards hosted by the U.S. State Department, where she emphasized the importance of courage.

A Myanmar-born Rohingya activist and an advocate for the country’s ethnic Karen minority are among those being honored today at the US State Department’s 13th Annual International Women of Courage (IWOC) Awards in Washington.
