Bangladesh FM seeks UN road map for Rohingya repatriation

Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen, who is now visiting the US, sought a clear roadmap from the United Nations regarding early repatriation of forcibly displaced persecuted Rohingyas from Bangladesh to their land of origin in Myanmar.        

‘We need a clear roadmap from the UN for repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar,’ he said at a bilateral meeting with special envoy of the UN secretary general on Myanmar Christine S Burgener at the Bangladesh permanent mission in New York on Wednesday, said a release received in Dhaka on Thursday.

OIC FMs meet today, Rohingya among top agenda

Foreign ministers of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation countries are set to meet together in Niger today while the Rohingya genocide case with the International Court of Justice is expected to come up among the top agendas.

OIC secretary general Yousef Al-Othaimeen said in a statement that the council of foreign ministers would discuss how to raise funds for the Rohingya case at the ICJ in addition to other issues concerning the Muslim world like Palestinian cause, fight against violence, extremism and terrorism, Islamophobia and religious defamation.

OIC secretariat set the stage for the two-day 47th session of 57-member OIC’s council of foreign ministers meeting in Niger’s capital Niamey from Nov 27-28.

Momen leaves for Turkey Sunday, bilateral talks on Sept 15

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen will leave Dhaka for Turkey on Sunday on a four-day visit for holding a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on September 15.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will virtually inaugurate the newly-built Bangladesh chancery complex in Turkish capital Ankara on September 14. Momen and the Turkish foreign minister will join the virtual inaugural ceremony from the chancery complex, reports UNB.

Mevlut Cavusoglu reiterates Turkey's support for Rohingya Muslims

 


Turkey's foreign minister on Thursday shared Eid greetings with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh over a video call.

Mevlut Cavusoglu spoke to refugees receiving treatment at the Turkish Sahara Hospital in Cox's Bazar region, according to a source who asked not to be named due to restriction on speaking to the media.
