2 Rohingyas among 3 killed in Teknaf, Kushtia 'gunfights'

Three people, including two Rohingyas, have been killed in reported gunfights in Cox's Bazar and Kushtia districts.

The incidents happened early Friday.

In Cox's Bazar, two Rohingya men, suspected of being involved in the murder of Jubo League leader Omar Faruk, were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila.

The deceased were identified as Abul Karim, 24, and Nesar Ahmed alias Nesar Dacoit, 29, of Nayapara Rohingya camp.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station said: "Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive at Jadimura Hill area around midnight.

Two Rohingya people, also accused of Jubo League leader Omar Faruk murder case, were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Cox’s Bazar early today.

Deceased Muhammad Shah and Abdu Shukkur were residents of Zadimura Rohingya refugee camp at Hnila union of the district’s Teknaf upazila, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports.

Three suspected robbers and one drug peddler were killed in reported gunfights with police at Noorullah hill and Dogharchara point on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early Saturday.

Three among the dead were — Rohingyas Mohammad Jonyed, Ayoub Ali and Mohadi, members of of Rohingya gang led by Abdul Hakim. The other one was Imran Mollah, son of late Jahirul Islam of Kalkini in Madaripour.

Five killed in ‘gunfights’

Five people were killed in two gunfights on Monday, three in the Sunderbans and two Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar.

Three suspected forest-area robbers were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion members at Kodailya canal under Chandpai Range of the Sunderbans under Mongla upazila in Bagerhat while two suspected Rohingya drug peddlers were killed in a gunfight with police in Jadimara Rohingya camp area under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar, RAB and police officials said.

3 suspected ‘Rohingya robbers’ killed in ‘gunfight’

Three suspected Rohingya robbers were killed in an alleged 'gunfight' with police in Habiber Ghona hilly area in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Saturday, reports UNB.

The deceased Nur Alam, 23, Mohammad Jubayer, 20 and Hamid Ullah, 21, are residents of 'A-block' of Nayapara Rohingya camp at Hneela union.

Officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station Pradip Kumar Das said that a team of police conducted a drive around 2:30am on information that a gang of robbers was depositing arms in the hilly area.


Sensing the presence of police, the gang members opened fire, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police retrieved three men sustaining bullet-wounds from the spot.

Later, they died on the way to hospital.

Police also recovered four light weapons from the scene.

Six people were killed in alleged gunfights with law enforcement agencies in Cox's Bazar, Dhaka and Gazipur early Wednesday, reports news agency UNB.

In Cox's Bazar, four people were killed in separate reported gunfights with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members in Teknaf and Pekua upazilas.

Among the four deceased two were Rohingya drug peddlers and two sea robbers, the BGB and RAB claimed.

Ansar camp looting suspect Rohingya killed in ‘gunfight’

A Rohingya youth accused of robbery at Ansar Battalion camp and murder of its commander was killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ with the Rapid Action Battalion at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar Friday morning.

The deceased, Nurul Alam, 35, was arrested in February 2017 in the case filed for looting arms from the Ansar camp near Nayapara Rohingya camp on May 13, 2016. He was later released on bail in December 2017 while the trial of the case was still pending with the Cox’s Bazar Sessions Judge’s Court.

Armed assailants shot dead one Rohingya paramedic and injured a computer operator at Muchuni camp of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Friday evening apparently for sharing information about Ansar camp looting suspect Nurul Alam who was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion earlier in the day.

The police discovered the body of Rohingya paramedic Mohamed Hamid, 41, in the forest of the nearby hilly area hours after the sympathisers of Nurul Alam kidnapped him and shot at computer operator Hasan Ali at Muchuni camp of Nayapara at around 7:00pm.

DHAKA—A senior military commander of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), also known by its former name Harakah al-Yaqeen, was killed on Friday morning in what is being called a “gunfight” with the Bangladesh police’s specialized unit, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in the Teknaf sub-district of the Cox’s Bazar.

ARSA has not yet made any statement on the death of their commander and top arms collector, Nurul Alam.
