Football fever in Kutupalong

Last Saturday, Kutupalong was abuzz with the sound of boot striking leather and the accompanying cheers of an engrossed and sizeable crowd as a Dhaka-based football club squared off in a match against Rohingya FC.

Malaysia’s Rohingya football community is in mourning after the death of 19-year-old Rohimullah Bin Abdul Zalil, who was killed after the sodden football pitch he was standing on was struck by lightning on Sunday.

PETALING JAYA: A lightning strike on a football field near Setia Murni, Setia Alam, killed a Rohingya player and injured three others.

Heavy rain had forced the afternoon game to stop but a few players were still on the field when tragedy struck.

A Rohingya died after he was struck by lightning while playing football in Setia Alam Shah Alam this evening.
It is learnt several of his teammates, also Rohingya, were badly injured in the incident.
