4 held over Rohingya man’s murder in Ukhiya camp

Armed Police Battalion (APBn) on Friday arrested four people in connection with the murder of a Rohingya man in Tajnimarkhola camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar.

The arrested are- Zahid Hossain of camp-13, Mohammad Yasin of camp-15, Noor Alam of camp-19, Mohammad Gani of camp-13, Assistant Superintendent of Police of APBn-8 Faruq Ahmed said.

Burma Army Pays Compensation To Family Of Murder Victim in Kachin State

The military promised to launch a investigate into three soldiers who allegedly raped and murdered a 51-year-old woman in Momauk Township last week.

On Monday, military officials from LIB-616 and LID-88 met with the victim's family in Nuam Lang village to apologize and give them 2.1M kyat ($1,276) in compensation.

“They said action would be taken against the three soldiers according to the law. They didn't call it a rape case, they said it's a murder case,” a local man close to the victim's family told KNG.

Locals storm Rohingya camp after Jubo League leader’s murder

Hundreds of agitated locals stormed a Rohingya camp and vandalised makeshift houses and NGO offices following the murder of a local Jubo League leader in Teknaf.

They burned tyres and plastic boxes to block a five-kilometre road from Teknaf municipality to Leda Point in Cox’s Bazar for three hours. The residence of Rohingya leader Noor Mohammad was also torched. Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said they persuaded the agitated locals to end their blockade around 3:00 pm assuring them of arresting the killers and bringing them to justice.

SITTWE—A resident of Pann Myaung village in Rakhine State’s Minbya Township was shot dead in front of his house on Wednesday evening, according to township police.

U Maung Aye Thein, 56, was shot five times at close range at around 9 p.m., Police Captain Mya Zaw told The Irrawaddy.
