In the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills of West Bengal, stickers and posters demanding the release of the 11th Panchen Lama from alleged forced confinement by the Chinese authorities can be spotted in many of the shops owned by the Tibetan refugee population. The Panchen Lama is considered the second-highest spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, after the Dalai Lama, and has been one of the contentious issues of China and the Dalai Lama’s battle over Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism.

Recently declassified Israeli Foreign Ministry documents reveal deep Israeli military ties with Burma, now known as Myanmar, and its significant role in the brutal massacre against the Rohingya Muslims.

According to a report published yesterday by Haaretz, the 25,000 pages of documents detail how the Israeli regime armed and trained the Burmese army, from the 1950s until the beginning of the 1980s.

Since the end of British rule in Myanmar in 1948, different parts of the country have been rocked by relentless civil war.

On June 8, 2020, The Gambia filed an application for discovery with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The application asks the Court to compel Facebook to provide information related to the personal Facebook accounts of Myanmar officials. The information that The Gambia seeks is to be used in an action brought by The Gambia against Myanmar in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, The Netherlands.

There are so many legitimate reasons to hate Facebook. It not only encourages polarisation and radicalisation, the company has also engineered the platform to “exploit the human brain’s attraction to divisiveness”, which helps rake in billions of dollars in profit from nefarious political entrepreneurs, grifters and manipulators who peddle hate and sow division.

Shukkur, a muslim rohingya, alleges he was taken inside a building and beaten by christian Rohingya in Kutupalong refugee camp, 26th January, 2020.
On the night of 26th January, violence broke out in Bangladesh’s Kutupalong refugee camp between christian and muslim Rohingya. As a result, several christians required immediate hospitalisation, and seventeen christian families within Kutupalong have been removed to the transit camp ( a transit centre where refugees stay prior to allocation to a particular camp). Tensions have long simmered between the small christian community (approximately 1500 strong), and their muslim compatriots. Occasionally these tensions spill over into violence. According to the christians, this episode is the worst in the history of Rohingya christian/muslim relations.
