German filing alleges war crimes in Burma

BANGKOK -- A human-rights group and 16 people from Burma have filed a criminal complaint in Germany seeking punishment of the country's generals for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity that alleged to have been committed in that country after their 2021 government takeover and during a 2017 crackdown on minority Rohingya Muslims.

Fortify Rights, a complainant in the case announced Tuesday in Bangkok, said "the individuals responsible for crimes related to both have yet to be held accountable."

Court hikes jail terms in infamous Rohingya graveyard case

The Appeal Court has significantly increased the prison terms for many defendants in the huge Rohingya trafficking case that followed the discovery of the graves of many illegal migrants in the far South four years ago.

Sentences were increased to around 80 years for defendants including an army lieutenant general and several local southern politicians.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called on Myanmar’s State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday to quickly facilitate the repatriation of over 700,000 Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh to their former homes in Rakhine state, also urging the de facto national leader to guarantee safe conditions for their return.
