RAB detains 9 Rohingyas with arms following fatal Kutupalong clash

Rapid Action Battalion on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 detained nine Rohingyas with arms who were reportedly involved in a clash at Kutupalong camp that left two dead on Sunday Dhaka Tribune


RAB seized four locally made guns and 20 rounds of cartridges from the detainees’ possession during a drive in Chakmarkul hill area in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf on Tuesday,

All of the detainees are residents of Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

Acting on a tip-off RAB conducted a drive and detained them, said Major Mehedi Hasan, company commander of RAB 15 Cox's Bazar camp.

Bangladesh police said at least four people died after members of two criminal factions attacked each other in a sprawling camp for Rohingya refugees late Tuesday, officials said.

Twenty other refugees were wounded as the two groups battled, using locally made guns and sharp weapons, at Kutupalong in Ukhiya in the Cox’s Bazar district, said Rafiqul Islam, a police superintendent.

Last Saturday, Kutupalong was abuzz with the sound of boot striking leather and the accompanying cheers of an engrossed and sizeable crowd as a Dhaka-based football club squared off in a match against Rohingya FC.

Three German journalists among 6 injured in Rohingya camp

Six people including three German journalists were attacked inside the Rohingya camp during their filming at Lambashia camp of Kutupalnong in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday afternoon.

The ARD German TV cameraman, Gunder Stegner, 61, along with his German colleagues Stefanie Appel, 49, and Ernico Leube, 44, and Bangladeshi fixer Mohammad Shihabuddin was beaten and were given treatment at a nearby hospital afterwards.

DHAKA—A senior military commander of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), also known by its former name Harakah al-Yaqeen, was killed on Friday morning in what is being called a “gunfight” with the Bangladesh police’s specialized unit, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in the Teknaf sub-district of the Cox’s Bazar.

ARSA has not yet made any statement on the death of their commander and top arms collector, Nurul Alam.

More than 145,000 Rohingya refugee children return to school

As a new school year begins, more than 145,000 Rohingya refugee children are heading back to school in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.

A huge effort from the humanitarian community has seen a network of around 1,600 Learning Centres constructed throughout the refugee camps, providing vital access to education for children who fled violence in Myanmar.
