Rohingya hold rally seeking return to homeland

DHAKA – “2023 should be Rohingya Home Year,” read a placard held up by a refugee boy as nearly 1,000 Rohingya people in Bangladesh’s refugee camp in the southern border district of Cox’s Bazar held a rally, demanding a peaceful and dignified return to their home country of Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

Carrying banners and placards with various slogans like “Rohingya Want to Smile in 2023,” “No NVC (National Verification Cards)” and “Enough is Enough, Let’s Go Home”, a large number of the persecuted people attended the rally on Saturday.

Bangladesh bars 41 NGOs from undertaking any activity in Cox's Bazar Rohingya Camps

The Government of Bangladesh has barred 41 NGOs from undertaking any activity in Cox's Bazar Rohingya Camps for their alleged wrongdoings.

This was announced today by Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in Sylhet. He said A total of 139 NGOs have been operating in the Rohingya camps since the refugee crisis began in August 2017.

Thousands of Rohingya refugees have marked the second anniversary of their exodus into Bangladesh by rallying and praying as they demand Myanmar grant them citizenship and other rights before they agree to return.

Almost 200,000 Rohingya participated in a peaceful gathering, which was attended by UN officials, at the Kutupalong camp in Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar on Sunday, police officer Zakir Hassan told AFP news agency.
