Malaysian foreign minister Saifuddin Abdullah arrived here on Saturday on a three-day visit to discuss wide-ranging bilateral, regional and international issues including Rohingya issue.

The Malaysian foreign minister, who is now on his first trip to Bangladesh since assuming the post last year, would have a bilateral meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen on Sunday, said a foreign ministry official here.

Bangladesh wants a stronger role of Malaysia, an influential member of the Asean, in addressing the Rohingya crisis as visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah holds a meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart in Dhaka today.

During the meeting, Dhaka would request Kuala Lumpur to reopen its labour market for Bangladeshis, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told The Daily Star yesterday.

PUTRAJAYA: Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah will undertake a two-day official visit to Myanmar beginning today.

Wisma Putra in a statement said the visit aimed to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries and provide an opportunity for constructive engagements on matters of mutual interest and future cooperation.

Malaysia wants the "criminals" who oppress the Rohingya ethnic community in Myanmar to be brought immediately to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said today.

Saifuddin said that although the matter could take a long time, Putrajaya is very serious about the issue as such oppression has forced the Rohingya ethnic community to become refugees all over the world.
