အခုေပးတဲ့ ဆုေတြဟာ အာရွတိုက္အတြင္းက လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးနဲ႔ပတ္သက္တဲ့သတင္းနဲ႔ သတင္းဓာတ္ပုံေတြ မွတ္တမ္း၊ ဗြီဒီယိုစသျဖင့္ ေရးသားသူ၊ ရိုက္ကူးသူေတြကို ခ်ီးျမႇင့္တဲ့ ဆုျဖစ္ၿပီး ၂၀၂၀ ျပည့္ႏွစ္အတြက္ ေပး တဲ့ ဆုဟာ ၂၄ ႀကိမ္ေျမာက္ဆု ျဖစ္ပါတယ္။

The immediate steps that the government can take in response to the ruling by the International Court of Justice include dismantling enforced ethnic segregation in Rakhine State.
Last month, the International Court of Justice ordered Myanmar to take measures to prevent genocide against the Rohingya. The government’s immediate reaction was not encouraging. It claimed that no genocide had taken place in Rakhine State. Subsequently, the government spokesman said that all measures to prevent genocidal acts were already being taken, “so we don’t need to take any special action based on the ruling”.

Despite government concern and suspicion in the wake of deadly terror attacks in Sri Lanka, Myanmar is not a likely target for Islamic extremism.

ON EASTER Sunday, April 21, one of the deadliest terror attacks in the last decade occurred in one of Myanmar’s closest neighbours – a country also recovering from decades of civil war, and with a history of tension between a Muslim minority and Buddhist majority.

MYITKYINA — Ko Thurain Tun, 21, and a group of four friends dream of founding an organisation to provide humanitarian relief, education, and skills programmes for conflict-affected communities in their home town of Ponnagyun in Rakhine State.

Yet, with the project stalled because of a lack of funding and escalating conflict between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army in Rakhine, Thurain Tun boarded a bus for a four-day journey to the Kachin State capital Myitkyina to attend a forum on peace.

YANGON — The Tatmadaw has blamed the Arakan Army for an escalation in fighting in Rakhine State, with military spokespeople accusing the armed group of harming civilians and labelling its demands “impossible”.

“With the thoughts of a child daydreaming, some of the armed groups are asking for what is impossible,” Major-General Soe Naing Oo, chair of the Tatmadaw’s True News Information Team, said at a press briefing in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday to discuss recent fighting with the AA. “Don’t ask for impossible things,” he said.

DHAKA — The United Nations said Monday it was examining how to assist Bangladesh in relocating thousands of Rohingya refugees to a remote island despite warnings it could trigger fresh humanitarian upheaval.

Dhaka says shifting 100,000 refugees to a muddy silt islet in the Bay of Bengal will take pressure off overcrowded camps along its southern border, where almost a million Rohingya Muslims live in cramped tent cities.

DHAKA — A senior UN official has welcomed Bangladesh's plan to move Rohingya refugees out of the country's congested camps, but said any move to transfer some 100,000 of them to a flood-prone island should be voluntary.

YANGON — Fighting between Myanmar's military and the Arakan Army in Mrauk U, the ancient capital of the Rakhine kingdom, has left at least eight injured, scaring tourists and sparking fears that the historical monuments are under threat.
