Bangladesh has requested Egypt to continue providing required support to The Gambia over the Rohingya issue at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as a leading OIC member country.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen made the request when outgoing Ambassador of Egypt Walid Ahmed Shamseldin met him on Sunday.

The Gambia on Friday filed a more than 500-page Memorial, which also includes over 5,000 pages of supporting material, in its lawsuit against Myanmar at the ICJ in The Hague, making its case for how the government of Myanmar is responsible for genocide against Rohingya.

Activists, Bangladesh welcome move as Myanmar urged to comply with orders of international court

Gambia has filed its case against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the alleged genocide of the Rohingya in a move widely hailed by the Muslim minority group, as well as refugee host country Bangladesh.

Over 500 pages, the memorial submitted Friday also includes more than 5,000 pages of supporting materials, while Rohingya rights groups have urged Myanmar to immediately comply with earlier ICJ orders to prevent ongoing acts of genocide and preserve evidence of genocide against Rohingya Muslims.

PARIS — An arsenal of international laws has failed to confront the impunity of Myanmar’s government and security forces for their deadly purge of the country’s Rohingya Muslim minority, forcing hundreds of thousands to flee a campaign of rape, arson and killing.

But on Monday, Gambia filed a lawsuit accusing Myanmar of genocide, summoning the case before the United Nations’ highest court in an effort to open a legal path against the country’s authorities.

UK committed to play role in UNSC on Rohingya plight: Lord Ahmad

The UK government is committed to continuing its role in the UN Security Council (UNSC) to highlight the plight of the Rohingyas, says British Minister of State for South Asia and the Commonwealth at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon.

He praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for hosting over a million Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar and reassured that the UK would continue to stand alongside both the Rohingya community and the government of Bangladesh.

Dutch FM writes Momen assuring support 

The Netherlands has reiterated its commitment to help ensure justice and accountability for the atrocities committed against Rohingyas by the Myanmar authorities.

Foreign Minister of the Netherlands Stef Blok in a letter to his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen conveyed it saying they will help to ensure justice through the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

On January 23, 2020, the International Court of Justice in The Hague, informally known as the World Court, rendered a historic judgment. The decree ordered the government of Myanmar to comply with several directives: to take measures to prevent genocide against the Rohingya people; to ensure that its military refrain from acts prohibited by the Genocide Convention; and to preserve evidence and submit a report to the court within four months, detailing compliance with the court’s order. The unanimous decision by the fifteen-judge court represented only the third time that the Genocide Convention has been invoked before the World Court in a contentious case—and the first case ever to consider the claims, under the convention, of non-contiguous, non-warring countries.

With little support from the international arena, what is the future of the Rohingya in Bangladesh?

On October 5, Vikram Doraiswami, the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to the country, arrived in Bangladesh. He told reporters at the land port in Akhaura: “Bangladesh is one of India’s closest friends, and thus we are eager to continue and enhance our bilateral relationship with this neighbouring country.”

Beijing is now more interested in keeping Bangladesh as a development partner through the continuous effort of distancing Dhaka from Delhi. Recently, Sino-Indian relations with Bangladesh are looking great, but the reality is different.

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The OIC Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on Accountability for Human Rights Violations against the Rohingya held a consultative meeting at the level of Permanent Representatives in Riyadh on 30 September 2020.

 During the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, reviewed the practical positive steps taken by the OIC to sensitize the international community of the plight of the Rohingya and the OIC’s strong commitment to the principles of justice and accountability for human rights violations committed against the Rohingya, particularly within the framework of the legal case filed with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Myanmar.

The application asks the Court to compel Facebook to provide information related to the personal Facebook accounts of Myanmar officials. The information that The Gambia seeks is to be used in an action brought by The Gambia against Myanmar in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, The Netherlands.

BANGKOK – As long-anticipated international accountability measures for Myanmar gather pace, recent developments which at first seem to promise evidence for justice, on closer examination could potentially disrupt such investigations.

On September 8, the American nongovernmental organization Fortify Rights released a statement, in conjunction with the New York Times, of testimony by two Myanmar Army, or Tatmadaw, soldiers who claim to have perpetrated under military orders the murder of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state in 2017.
