Rebel ethnic Arakan Army has reportedly taken over control of Buthidaung town in Rakhine state.

ANKARA (AA)- The reported seizure of Buthiduang town of Myanmar's Rakhine state by the rebel ethnic Arakan Army (AA) has triggered a fresh exodus, displacing 150,000 Rohingya Muslims, a Rohingya rights group said on Sunday.

On Saturday, the rebel group claimed that took complete control of Buthidaung township, home to the ethnic Rohingya population, near the Bangladesh border after the regime's Strategic Military Command in the northern Rakhine State town fell.

A powerful ethnic armed group fighting Myanmar's military government in the country's western state of Rakhine claimed Saturday to have seized a town near the border with Bangladesh, marking the latest in a series of victories for foes of the country's military government.

May 19 (Reuters) - A powerful armed ethnic group in Myanmar said on Sunday it had won control over a town in the western state of Rakhine after weeks of fighting, denying accusations it had targeted members of the Muslim-minority Rohingya during the offensive.

About 30 members of Myanmar’s Rohingya minority have been killed in clashes between junta forces and ethnic minority Buddhist insurgents, residents of Rakhine State said on Saturday, raising new fears that the persecuted Muslim community is being caught in the middle of increasingly bitter fighting.
