Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment – although this does not account for the other charges levelled against her, as well as her advanced age. It could very well be that Myanmar's erstwhile paragon of democracy and human rights will never be free again. It is a thumping victory for its military, which has for long battled to undermine democracy in the state.

China should resolve the Rohingya refugee crisis as soon as possible for ensuring the greater interest of South Asia and South East Asia to some extent its own interest.

For South Asia in general and for Bangladesh as well, the Rohingya crisis is one of the burning issues for a while. As an extra regional power, however, the role of China is very critical here—not only because of her long-standing involvement in the South Asian region but also China being one of the P5 members of the UN Security Council. Nevertheless, it is time Beijing acknowledged and shifted her compass over to the humanitarian grounds and the plight of the Rohingyas rather than maintaining an esoteric image.

The US wants the UN to issue a resolution to pressure the military junta to restore democracy.

THE UNITED STATES yesterday demanded swift action from the UN Security Council on Myanmar amid a push for a resolution to pressure the military junta to restore democracy.

“The military needs to feel the cost associated with its horrific actions. The stability and prosperity of the region depends on swift action,” US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told a Security Council meeting.

On 1 February, Myanmar’s military launched a coup that halted abruptly the country’s democratic transition. The military prevented the convening of the democratically elected parliament and arbitrarily detained the country’s civilian leaders, including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint. The reaction of the people of Myanmar has been resolute – hundreds of thousands of peaceful protesters have taken to the streets to demand that the outcome of November’s election is respected and to call for the reversal of the coup.

Alternative civilian government proposes ‘federal democracy charter’, amid fears of civil war

Myanmar protesters have burned a copy of the country’s military-drafted constitution as the UN envoy monitoring the crisis warned the security council of the risk of civil war and an imminent “bloodbath” if the junta is allowed to continue violently repressing a pro-democracy movement.

“I appeal to this council to consider all available tools to take collective action and do what is right, what the people of Myanmar deserve, and prevent a multidimensional catastrophe in the heart of Asia,” the special envoy on Myanmar, Christine Schraner Burgener, told the closed-door session.

လုံျခဳံေရးေကာင္စီ အဖြဲ႕ဝင္မ်ားက ျမန္မာစစ္တပ္အား အဆုံးစြန္အထိ ထိန္းထိန္းသိမ္းသိမ္းျဖင့္ ေဆာင္ရြက္ရန္ ထပ္ေလာင္းတိုက္တြန္းလိုက္ပါသည္။ လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးကို အျပည့္အဝ ေလးစားရန္ ႏွင့္ ျမန္မာျပည္သူမ်ား၏ ဆႏၵႏွင့္အညီ၊ ျမန္မာျပည္သူမ်ား၏ အက်ိဳးစီးပြားကို ေရွးရႈလ်က္ ေတြ႕ဆုံေဆြးေႏြးမႈႏွင့္ ျပန္လည္သင့္ျမတ္ေရး ေဆာင္ရြက္မႈတို႔ ျပဳလုပ္ရန္ လိုအပ္ေၾကာင္းကို ထပ္ေလာင္း ေျပာဆိုပါသည္။ သက္ဆိုင္သူအားလုံးမွ အၾကမ္းဖက္မႈကို ေရွာင္ရွားၾကရန္ တိုက္တြန္းပါသည္။ ထို႔ျပင္ နိုင္ငံေတာ္အတိုင္ပင္ခံပုဂၢိဳလ္ ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္ႏွင့္ နိုင္ငံေတာ္ သမၼတဦးဝင္းျမင့္အပါအဝင္ ဖမ္းဆီး ထိန္းသိမ္းထားသူမ်ားအားလုံးကို ခ်က္ခ်င္းျပန္လႊတ္ေပးရန္ ထပ္မံတိုက္တြန္းလိုက္သည္။

Bangladesh and Myanmar signed a repatriation deal on November 23, 2017

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has requested that India, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, play a “strong role” in the early repatriation of the displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.

Prime Minister Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi recently reiterated the importance of the safe, speedy, and sustainable return of Rohingyas to their homeland for the greater security of the region.

ၿမန္မာႏိ္ုင္ငံမွာ ေဖေဖာ္ဝါရီလ ၁ ရက္ေန႔က စစ္တပ္ကေန ျမန္မာအရပ္သားအစိုးရကိုျဖဳတ္ခ်တဲ့အေပၚ အျပင္း အထန္ရႈတ္ခ်ထားတဲ့ ကုလသမဂၢလူ႔အခြင့္အေရးေကာင္စီ ဆံုးျဖတ္ခ်က္မူၾကမ္းကို ကန္႔ကြက္သူမရွိ၊ မဲမခဲြဘဲ လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးေကာင္စီကေန တညီတည္း ဆံုးျဖတ္အတည္ျပဳလိုက္ပါတယ္။ 

 

လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးေကာင္စီအစည္းအေ၀း ေစာင့္ၾကည့္သတင္းယူေနတဲ့ မနန္းေလာ၀္ေျပာျပမွာပါ။

ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံမွာ အေရးေပၚအေျခအေနေၾကညာၿပီး လႊတ္ေတာ္ကို ပယ္ဖ်က္တာ၊ သမၼတဦး၀င္းျမင့္ ႏိုင္ငံေတာ္ အတိုင္ပင္ခံပုဂၢိဳလ္ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္အပါအ၀င္ အစိုးရေခါင္းေဆာင္ပိုင္းေတြ၊ ႏိုင္ငံေရးသမားေတြ သ တင္း သမားေတြ အရပ္ဘက္လူမႈအဖဲြ႕အစည္းအသီးသီးက ပုဂၢိဳလ္ေတြကို မတရားဖမ္းဆီးတဲ့အေပၚမွာလည္း ကုလလူ႔အခြင့္အေရးေကာင္စီက အျပင္းအထန္ကန္႔ကြက္ရႈတ္ခ်ထားပါတယ္။ လက္ရွိက်င္းပေနတဲ့ ၄၆ ႀကိမ္ ေၿမာက္ကုလသမဂၢ လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးေကာင္စီအစည္းအေ၀းမွာ ကမ႓ာအရပ္ရပ္က လူ႔အခြင့္အေရးအေျခ အေ နေတြကို အေလးထားေဆြးေႏြးေနၾကတာမွာ ျမန္မာျပည္အေရးကိစၥကလည္း အဓိက ေဆြးေႏြးစရာအေၾကာင္း တခုျဖစ္ခဲ့ပါတယ္။
