A Chinese government delegation met Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh, promising each refugee up to U.S. $6,000 if they returned to Rakhine state in Myanmar, a Bangladeshi official and refugee leaders said Tuesday.

BGB returns trespassing Myanmar soldier

The Border Guards Bangladesh has sent back a Myanmar soldier who was arrested over trespassing on the border with Lemuchhari in Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari.

The army soldier was returned to the BGP, the border security force in Myanmar, following a flag meeting at Ghundhum border at around 11:00 am on Sunday, said Lt Col Asaduzzaman, chief of BGB-11 battalion.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed over a member of Myanmar Army to Myanmar today, 39 days after he was “detained” along the border in Bandarban on January 24, an official of the Bangladeshi paramilitary force has said.

Aung Bo Thin was handed over to the Myanmar Army on Bangladesh-Myanmar Friendship Bridge at Ghumdum point along the border in Naikhangchhari upazila at 12:05pm, BGB battalion- 34 Commander Lt Col Ali Haider Azad Ahmed told a press briefing.

Dhaka, Feb 28 (UNB) - Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Thursday sought continued French support to create conducive environment inside the Rakhine State of Myanmar for their dignified return in safety and security.

“France-South East Asia,” the Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by the Senator and President Jacky Deromedi, met the Foreign Minister at his office and discussed the issue.

President Donald Trump has put the cat among the pigeons by insisting that the captured IS members from Syria be sent back to their respective countries -- a move that is a great embarrassment to the states concerned. After all, how does one rehabilitate individual citizens that waged war on others, even if they can be prosecuted? It’s funny in a way.

NGAPALI BEACH: Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi called for investment in the crisis-hit western state of Rakhine, saying the world had “focused narrowly on negative aspects” in the state from which some 730,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled since 2017.

Dhaka: The plight of the Rohingya refugees to return home must not fall off the international agenda and they must be given justice, she said, according to a press release issued yesterday by the British High Commission in Dhaka.

She said the international community must make sure that Rohingyas’ right to return remains high on the agenda.

Mordaunt, also the UK’s minister for women and equalities, arrived in Dhaka on Sunday on a three-day official visit. On Monday, she met Rohingya refugees at a food distribution centre in Kutupalong camp of Cox’s Bazar.
