2 Rohingyas with Bangladeshi passports held in B’baria

They were caught trying to cross over to India via Akhaura

Bangladesh Immigration Police has detained two Rohingyas in Brahmanbaria with Bangladeshi passport on their way to India.

They were held from Akhaura land port on Thursday afternoon.

The detainees are - Md Kamal, 24, and Sabbir Mollah, 22, according to the police. They have confessed to being Rohingya.

23 ‘Rohingyas’ detained from Dhaka

Detectives detained 23 suspected Rohingyas, two other women and a man from Dhaka’s Khilkhet area this morning.

Their names were yet to be ascertained, but none of the suspected Rohingyas can speak Bengali, police sources told The Daily Star. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman, told The Daily Star detectives held them with 56 passports from Madhyapara, Khilkhet, around 10:00am.

4 Rohingyas detained at Dhaka airport

Four Rohingya people including three women were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka today while attempting to fly to Indonesia.

Tipped off, a team of Airport Police detained the four from the outdoor around 11:00am, Airport Police’s Additional Superintendent Alamgir Hossian told The Daily Star.

Detainees Anwar, 30, Rokeya, 19, Marijan, 23, and Amena Begum, 26, were attempting to fly to Indonesia via Malaysia by a flight of a Malaysian Airlines at noon.

They are the residents of Maungdaw in Rakhine State of Myanmar but they were bearing Bangladeshi passports, the police official said.

Legal actions will be taken against them, he added.

Jailed Reuters reporters, U.S. border photographers win Pulitzer Prizes.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Reuters won two Pulitzer Prizes on Monday, one for revealing the massacre of 10 Muslim Rohingya men by Buddhist villagers and Myanmar security forces, and another for photographs of Central American migrants seeking refuge in the United States.


The awards marked the second year in a row that Reuters has won two Pulitzers, the most prestigious prize in American journalism. Reuters has won seven since 2008.

Two of this year’s honorees have been jailed for 490 days in Myanmar for their role in uncovering the killings.
