Date: 01 May 2024

The Bangladeshi police forces on 27 April arrested two Rohingya youths from the refugee camps, who were reportedly receiving arms training from Myanmar junta and found them in possession of 17 bullets, said a report of Rising BD, an online news portal of Dhaka.

The arrested Rohingya youths are identified as Kefayet Ullah (19) from Kutupalong refugee camp block-E-314 in Cox's Bazar district and Anwar Mostafa (18) from Bhasan Char refugee camp in Noakhali district.

They fled from the military training program of Myanmar junta forces. Many young people from those refugee camps have been recruited for arms training.

The highway police officer-in-charge Qayyum Uddin Chowdhury confirmed that they were arrested along with a total of 17 bullets from Nayapara area along Cox's Bazar–Teknaf highway at around 11 am on Saturday.

On 19 April, both the Rohingya youths were brought to Buthidaung military camp in Maungdaw district by some brokers. They were trained in the rifle shooting to prepare to face Burmese armed ethnic groups. But experiencing extreme heat and food shortages in the camp, they opted to flee after a week.

A lawsuit has been filed under the relevant laws and both of them were handed over to the Teknaf police station.

During the interrogation, they stated that the bullets were brought from Myanmar to Kutupalong refugee camp.

On 29 April, a news report from BBC Burmese stated that thousands of Rohingya refugees from the camps in Bangladesh were undergoing short-term military training programs and they had been armed by the military junta in Maungdaw Township.
