Five Rohingya men have been arrested in connection with the killing of a prominent community leader in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, according to the police, adding that they were probing links to an armed group.

Mohibullah – a high-profile figurehead for the nearly one million-strong Muslim minority in Bangladesh – was killed by gunmen late on Wednesday in one of the sprawling camps in Cox’s Bazar district.

The search for the killers of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah continues in Bangladesh.

Police in Bangladesh have arrested three suspects believed to have links to an armed insurgent group among Rohingya refugees, as officials promised justice for the killers of a prominent Rohingya rights activist.

"The killers will certainly be brought to justice. None will be spared," Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Saturday, three days after the murder of Mohib Ullah, the head of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH).

SONGKHLA: Twenty Myanmar migrants were arrested in Hat Yai district on Saturday night, local media reported.

The arrests were made by a combined force of soldiers from the 5th Infantry Regiment, provincial and immigration police and administrative officials of Hat Yai district.

At about 8pm on Saturday, authorities searched a Bangkok-registered articulated lorry which stopped near Ban Rai village on Kanchanawanich road in tambon Ban Phru of Hat Yai district to pick up two Myanmar migrants. They found two other Myanmar migrants already in the lorry.

Police have arrested 10 more Rohingyas, including three children, who had fled from Bhashan Char.

They were held from the Ichakhali area under Mirsarai upazila by Zoraganj police early Monday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nur Hossain Mamun confirmed the matter, reports Bangla Tribune.

YANGON (Reuters) - Myanmar police arrested nearly 100 ethnic Rohingya on Wednesday after raiding a house in the commercial capital of Yangon, police and local media said.

Photos published by the local Tomorrow News Journal showed several barefoot men and dozens of women in colourful head scarves sitting on the ground in a courtyard.

Myanmar frequently detains Rohingya, members of a Muslim minority, on grounds of “illegal travel” for attempting to leave their native western Rakhine state.

Tin Maung Lwin, a police captain from Shwe Pyi Thar township, where the group was found, confirmed the arrests but declined to give further details.

Thirteen Rohingya refugees, including six children, have been arrested from Assam's Karimganj district - which borders Bangladesh - police sources told NDTV on Thursday, adding that all 13 were arrested for trying to illegally cross the international border.

The refugees, who were taken into custody on Tuesday, were picked up off a bus travelling from Agartala in Tripura to Guwahati in Assam. Sources said they were arrested from the Churaibari inter-state border. The arrested group includes four men and three women.

The police on Sunday said that they arrested seven Rohingyas and one Bangladeshi, and seized 900 pieces of Yaba tablets, and Tk 90 thousand in cash in a raid at Muktarpur of Munshiganj on Saturday evening.

Of the arrested, Noor Begum, 50, and her two daughters — Noor Jahan alias Rumana Akhter, 19, and Shakila Jahan alias Ruma, 25 — their relatives Aju Begum, 35, Zia Bal, 30, and Sumaiya Akhter, 16, Noor Kaida, 15, were from Leda Rohingya camp in Teknaf of the Cox’s Bazar.

A group of 42 Rohingya Muslims -- including two children -- was detained last Thursday (Sept 3) offshore of Bogale in Ayeyarwady region, local police told AFP.

PATHEIN, Myanmar (AFP) - Nearly 50 Rohingya Muslims have been detained at sea by Myanmar's navy, a local official said on Friday (Feb 14), the latest from the persecuted minority to be caught trying to flee camps in Bangladesh and Myanmar's restive Rakhine state.

It was not immediately clear where the group started their boat journey but they were likely aiming for Malaysia or Indonesia, predominantly Muslim countries with large Rohingya diasporas.

DHAKA (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Bangladesh has arrested 12 men suspected of targeting Rohingya refugees for trafficking, police said on Friday, amid concerns over the growing desperation of the refugees.

Two Rohingya women and a Bangladeshi child were also held in the operation by the Rapid Action Battalion, an elite force of the Bangladesh police, in the capital Dhaka late on Thursday. Police said they were being questioned.

The Interior Ministry of the city state said yesterday evening that the group had "organized and mobilized" members of the Burmese community in Singapore to support the Arakan Army (Aa).

The members of the armed group belong to the ethnic minority Rakhine (or arakanese) which, of Buddhist religion, constitutes about 4% of the Burmese population.

SINGAPORE: Several Myanmar nationals are to be deported from Singapore after mobilising support for "armed violence against the Myanmar government", the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Wednesday (Jul 10).

Myanmar news website The Irrawaddy named six individuals who it said were arrested in Singapore, including a relative of Arakan Army (AA) chief Tun Myat Naing.

SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has arrested a group of Myanmar nationals for using Singapore to mobilise support for armed violence against their government.

Their actions in support of the Arakan Army (AA), an armed group that has conducted violent attacks in Myanmar, are “inimical to Singapore’s security”, MHA said in a statement on Wednesday (July 10). It added that those found involved in activities of security concern will be deported.
The ministry’s statement came following reports in the Myanmar media that six leaders of the Arakan Association (Singapore) had been picked up, and that their computers and mobile phones were seized.

Three individuals identified by local authorities as “Bengalis” were arrested in the Chin State border town of Rihkhawdar on Tuesday as they tried to enter the country from India’s Mizoram State.

The arrest was made by a combined force of Rihkhawdar immigration and police officials shortly after the two women and one man crossed the border about 200 meters north of the town’s India-Burma Friendship Bridge. The authorities were waiting for them there after receiving a tipoff.
