7 Rohingya held in Munshiganj

Published:Oct 26,2020

The police on Sunday said that they arrested seven Rohingyas and one Bangladeshi, and seized 900 pieces of Yaba tablets, and Tk 90 thousand in cash in a raid at Muktarpur of Munshiganj on Saturday evening.

Of the arrested, Noor Begum, 50, and her two daughters — Noor Jahan alias Rumana Akhter, 19, and Shakila Jahan alias Ruma, 25 — their relatives Aju Begum, 35, Zia Bal, 30, and Sumaiya Akhter, 16, Noor Kaida, 15, were from Leda Rohingya camp in Teknaf of the Cox’s Bazar.

The police investigators said the Rohingya people arrived in Narayanganj recently, and they were linked to the drug smuggling from Teknaf with the help of the Bangladeshi youth Rashed alias Rakesh, 30, in Lauhajang of Munshiganj. Munshiganj police station officer-in-charge Anisur Rahman said, on a tip off, they arrested the Rohingyas and later arrested Rashed.

He said that they first came from the camp to Dhaka in the name of treatment and then got connected with Rashed. The police investigators claimed they were looking for the son of Noor Begum in this connection, who, the police said, went into hiding following the arrest.

He said a case was filed and they were sent to court.
