Thank you, Madam President,

Thank you High Commissioner for your report. We are deeply concerned by ongoing human rights violations against Rohingya, Rakhine, Shan, Kachin, and other minorities in Myanmar, and by the Tatmadaw’s culture of impunity for acts of sexual violence.

The UK is concerned by growing restrictions on freedom of expression. We call on the Government of Myanmar to lift the internet shut down in Rakhine state. The situation there should not be used to place further restrictions on Rohingya, Rakhine and other communities.

Free Rohingya Coalition (FRC) expressed gratitude to Maldives over the government's decision to file a written declaration of intervention at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague in support of the persecuted Rohingya people.

Highlighting that the genocide against the Rohingya effectively began in 1978, Ro Nay san Lwin, a founder of FRC stated, "Your action today speaks louder than the countless statements about us which are issued. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts".

Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney will represent the Maldives at the UN's highest court in the Rohingya case.

COLOMBO: The luxury tourist destination of the Maldives has hired prominent human rights lawyer Amal Clooney to represent it at the UN's highest court in seeking justice for Myanmar's persecuted Rohingya Muslims.

The Maldivian government said Wednesday it will formally join the mainly Muslim African state of The Gambia in challenging Myanmar's 2017 military crackdown that sent around 740,000 Rohingya fleeing into neighbouring Bangladesh.

Additional funding will be used in management of Rohingya refugee camps and community empowerment for host communities

Japan has decided to extend approximately $17 million as additional support to Myanmar’s persecuted Rohingya minority taking refuge in southeast Bangladesh.

The additional funds will also be used for the betterment of host communities in the town of Cox’s Bazar, the Japanese embassy in Dhaka said Tuesday.

The support includes site management of refugee camps; community empowerment; shelter upgrade; child protection; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities; medical services and training; environmental rehabilitation; life skills and livelihood improvement and nutritional improvement, the statement said.
