The latest incident occurred in a valley in Buthidaung township, near a village that was home to Rohingya Muslim families

Villagers and a lawmaker in Myanmar’s troubled Rakhine state said on Thursday that a military helicopter attacked a group of Rohingya Muslims gathering bamboo, killing five and wounding 13, but a military spokesman declined to comment.

Facebook Inc. has admitted it did not do enough to prevent the incitement of ethnic violence in Myanmar nearly two years ago, but it still has not taken enough steps to stop the spread of hate on its platform, a United Nations investigator says. “Facebook’s actions can only be described as minimal. It was as though the approach was apologize after the fact rather than try to prevent it in the first place.” Christopher Sidoti, U.N. investigator Hatred stoked on Facebook led to a military-led genocide against Myanmar’s Rohingya minority, the U.N. has said.

The Tatmadaw (military) set up a panel on Wednesday to investigate evidence of human rights abuses carried out by terrorists in northern Rakhine State on August 25, 2017, according to the military’s True News agency.

The agency said in a statement that the military invited submissions of evidence such as eyewitness reports, photos, documents, audio and video files related to the terrorist attacks.

Bangladesh called for the safe and quick repatriation of Rohingya refugees who have taken shelter in makeshift camps in southern Cox’s Bazar district, local media reported.

DHAKA, Bangladesh: Bangladesh’s border guard on Wednesday stopped 27 Rohingya refugees, including women and children, from trying to get to Malaysia via sea route, local media reported.

According to daily Prothom Alo, Lt. Col. Sarkar Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, a border guard official in the region, told media the refugees were found in two different places.

UN human rights experts on Tuesday condemned the Indian government for the deportation of three Rohingya to Myanmar despite international law which prohibits the practice.

According to the UN experts, India has separated and forcibly returned Rohingya families to Myanmar, including the recent deportation of a father and three of his children. Five other family members were also deported.
