Three Rohingyas among 4 killed in Teknaf ‘gunfights’

Three suspected robbers and one drug peddler were killed in reported gunfights with police at Noorullah hill and Dogharchara point on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early Saturday.

Three among the dead were — Rohingyas Mohammad Jonyed, Ayoub Ali and Mohadi, members of of Rohingya gang led by Abdul Hakim. The other one was Imran Mollah, son of late Jahirul Islam of Kalkini in Madaripour.

Prodeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station in a press release said seven police personnel including Cox’s Bazar additional superintendent of police were also injured in the ‘gunfight’ at around 4:30am.

The police team also seized seven illegal firearms, five sharp machetes and 25 cartridges from the spot.

Prodeep said a team of police raided Noorullah hill point after informed a group of robbers were preparing for robbery. When police rushed the spot, the robbers opened fire on police and police retaliated with gunshots for ‘their own safety’.

Later, police found three bodies of robbers at the spot.

Meanwhile, police found the body suspected drug peddler Imran Mollah at Dogharchara point on the marine drive at about 2:00am Sunday.

Police said two groups of drug peddlers faced off there on Friday night and later in the morning police found his body.

All the four bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Separate cases were filed with Teknaf police station in these regard.
