According to a press release from the RAB-6 battalion in Khulna, a team from the battalion on a tip-off went to Kodailya canal and signalled a boat there to halt but the suspected robbers in the boat opened fire on the RAB personnel who also returned the fire.

As the gunfight ended, the release said, the RAB personnel searched the boat and found the three in a critical condition whom they took to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.

They seized one shutter gun, one pipe gun, 23 bullets, three machetes and the boat the robbers were in, the release added.
