Police recovered the bullet-ridden body of a top Rohingya dacoit in Teknaf hills Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased is Md Rafiq Prakash, son of Barmaya Yusuf of Leda Maulvipara area of Hnila Union in Teknaf.

On December 27, rampaging students smashed through police lines and stormed a makeshift refugee shelter in a parking garage in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. More than 100 rioters then set upon some 137 Rohingya refugees, mostly women and children temporarily placed there.

After hundreds of Rohingya landed on the shores of Indonesia's Aceh province, a video was shared in social media posts that falsely claimed President Joko Widodo had called for the refugees to be expelled. The video -- which has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times -- in fact shows the president pledging to take action against human traffickers suspected to be behind the recent influx and saying temporary humanitarian aid would be given to the refugees.

The Arakan Army, an ethnic insurgent group fighting the junta government of Myanmar, seized a key port town, Paletwa, in Chin state on 14 January. The town is located to the east of the Bangladesh border and the river port is just 12km away. To the north is the Indian border.

(Jakarta) – Indonesian authorities should immediately stop all pushbacks of boats carrying ethnic Rohingya refugees, and investigate and end all assaults on refugees, Human Rights Watch said today. The authorities should allow them to disembark in the nearest safe port, provide protection and humanitarian assistance, and investigate online incitement of violence against them.
