Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday stressed the need for a people’s parliament by scrapping the December 30, 2018 election to solve the Rohingya crisis.

Addressing a discussion marking the fourth death anniversary of former prime minister and chairman of a faction of Jatiya Party, Kazi Zafar Ahmed, the BNP leader stressed the need of holding a general election immediately under a neutral government and neutral election commission to make a people’s government.

3 police officers killed within 2 weeks in northern Arakan

At least three police officers were killed in northern part of Arakan in Myanmar since 19 August last.
The latest one is reported from Ponna Kyunt township, 20 miles north of Arakanese capital city of Sittwe this morning.

An officer from Yota Yoke police station was stabbed to death by miscreants.

The victim police officer Zaw Min Htay was targeted at around 7 am when he was walking near the Yota Yoke market adjacent to the police station.

Bangladesh bars 41 NGOs from undertaking any activity in Cox's Bazar Rohingya Camps

The Government of Bangladesh has barred 41 NGOs from undertaking any activity in Cox's Bazar Rohingya Camps for their alleged wrongdoings.

This was announced today by Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in Sylhet. He said A total of 139 NGOs have been operating in the Rohingya camps since the refugee crisis began in August 2017.

DHAKA – Bangladesh on Thursday accused Myanmar of lacking the “will” to repatriate the Rohingya, as the spat between the countries grew over the recent failed attempt to return the stateless minority to their homes.

Two years after a brutal ethnic cleansing campaign forced around 700,000 Rohingya to flee Myanmar for Bangladesh, refugees are still trapped in unbearable conditions in overcrowded camps, Amnesty International said in a new briefing published today (August 29).

The 70-page briefing, ‘I don’t know what my future will be’: Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, warns that a ‘lost generation’ of Rohingya children are being systematically denied an education, and documents the sense of hopelessness and uncertainty expressed by many young people in the camps.

Amnesty researchers travelled to Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and spoke to 97 refugees in nine camps in February this year. With the situation still dire, Amnesty is calling on the Bangladeshi government to look beyond emergency measures and develop a long-term response to respect and protect the rights of refugees.

China is still offering mediation after two failed attempts to help Myanmar and Bangladesh start the process to repatriate Rohingya refugees.
Newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming on Thursday said China would play “more constructive role” in resolving the crisis.

He made the remarks to journalists after his maiden meeting with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen at his office.

The U.S. warned on Saturday that military abuses against Rohingya Muslims continued in Myanmar as the country's actions constituted ethnic cleansing in Rakhine State.

Marking the second anniversary of the beginning of the Myanmar security forces' "atrocities" against the Rohingya, State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement that more than 740,000 Rohingya were forced to flee to Bangladesh.

Motherland is always like a heaven to each and every human being in the world. I had the opportunity to take part, as a Freedom Fighter, in our Liberation War in 1971 as well as to visit a number of countries during my diplomatic career. I understand the basic difference being in my motherland and in a foreign country. One may pass a financially well off life in a foreign country, but he cannot feel the same mental advantages there like in his motherland. Motherland is the mother of all mothers. It is really difficult to find a person who does not love his or her mother. A child is nothing but a mother’s flesh and blood. It is the natural binding that starts from the day a child grows in the womb of a mother. This is the truth; it does not matter whether a mother is financially poor or rich.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Thursday held Myanmar responsible as efforts to begin repatriation of Rohingyas went in vain and sought more pressure on Myanmar to repatriate the Rohingyas.

"It's Myanmar's failure as it has failed to ensure security for the Rohingyas in Rakhine State. You (international community) have the responsibility. Our appeal to you is to be more aggressive…you will take more actions because it's not our problem only, it's a problem of all of us."
