Bangladesh has requested the United Nations (UN) Department of Global Communications (DGC) to play a strong role in raising awareness about Myanmar's brutal crimes against Rohingya.

Kazi Nabil, a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted Bangladesh’s position at the United Nations Conference Room 4 on Friday.

Speaking on the Rohingya issue, he said: "I request the United Nations DGC to play a strong role in raising awareness about the brutal crimes committed against the Rohingya in Myanmar.

He also spoke about Bangladesh's position concerning several issues, including ethnic language preservation and digitization.

Regarding false and fabricated reports on social media misleading people, he said: "It is a threat to peace and stability in society." In addition, he warned about the growing amount of hate speech being spread around the world.

DGC's #NoToHate campaign initiative on this matter is appreciated, Kazi Nabil added.

He said: "It is our responsibility to save minority languages from extinction. By doing so, we will be able to build inclusive, creative, and tolerant societies. We sincerely thank DGC for being a partner in celebrating International Mother Language Day on February 21.”

Kazi Nabil Ahmed also praised the DGC for commemorating genocide victims worldwide and observing the International Day for Countering Hate Speech.

He urged the organization to spread more awareness activities about past genocides.

At the same time, the MP emphasized the importance of bringing the genocide in Bangladesh in 1971 to the world's attention.

In his speech, Kazi Nabil Ahmed also called for more diversity in the UN campaigning to prevent global climate change.

Earlier, Bangladesh affirmed its position of permanent sovereignty for Palestine, including occupied land and East Jerusalem as the capital.

Kazi Nabil highlighted Bangladesh’s position on Palestine in a statement at a meeting of the United Nations Second Committee (Economic and Financial) on Monday.

According to the statement, the 2030 Global Development Agenda aims to ensure sustainable development for all. Particular emphasis has been placed on ensuring that no one is left behind. However, for more than 50 years, the land and property of the Palestinian people have remained under occupation.

Palestinians in the occupied territory are denied basic human rights, as revealed in a study by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad).

Associating himself with the Group of 77, Kazi Nabil noted that poverty and food insecurity in Palestine affect 53% and 64.4% of the Palestinian population, respectively. Gaza’s socioeconomic fabric is faltering due to 15 years of sea, land, and air blockade, as well as restricted trade and access to resources.
