115 Rohingya were arrested on the night of 20 December on Katonelay Island, in Ayeyarwady Region’s Bogale Township, after their boat got stranded there.
A local said that 60 Rohingya men, 43 women and 12 juveniles, were arrested by junta troops and police officers and taken to Bogale Police Station for travelling without permission from Rakhine State to Ayeyarwady Region.

A Katonelay resident said: “Because people working on fishing boats alerted the junta army and police to the stranded boat on the island, junta soldiers inspected the boat and found the Rohingya people inside the boat. The arrested were dragged to Bogale station during the night.”
According to sources in the legal profession, the arrested Rohingya are being detained at Bogale Police Station and the police are working on charging them under the Registration Act, which mandates sentences of two to five years in prison for those who break it.
On 30 October, also in Bogale Township, 35 adult Rohingya were sentenced to five years in prison and 13 Rohingya under the age of 18 were sent to Hnget Aw San Training School
