March 4 th, 2019 ― Doha: A joint high-profile delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has visited Bangladesh to review humanitarian operations for the Rohingya refugees and hand over newly built shelters to refugee camp inhabitants.

QRCS was represented by Ali bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, Secretary-General, and Dr. Faouzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations. KRCS’s delegation was headed by the organization’s President, Dr. Hilal Mussaed Al-Sayer.

First, the delegation went to Camp No. 14 to hand the new shelters over to some Rohingya families. The handover ceremony was attended by H.E. Adel Mohammed A.H. Hayat, Ambassador of Kuwait to Bangladesh; Md. Feroz Salah Uddin, Secretary-General of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS); and staff of BDRCS and QRCS’s representation mission in Bangladesh.

The three partners commended the tripartite humanitarian cooperation in the best interest of the Rohingya refugees, which culminated in this first-of-its-kind project.

Following the handover of the first batch of shelters, the delegation took a tour in the Friendship Village and talked to the beneficiaries about their impression and needs.

The first phase of the project involved building 55 shelters and four public latrines; installing six solar lampposts; carrying out site development, shelter supports, and passageway clearing; and distributing nonfood items (NFIs) including cooking fuel, kitchenware, solar lamps, rugs, umbrellas, and seeds.

After that, QRCS’s delegation headed for the BDRCS primary health care complex, where they spent some time communicating with the patients and doctors. Then, they visited QRCS’s primary health care center at Camp No. 19, which is funded by Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

The visit concluded with a quick tour at QRCS’s clinic at Camp No. 4. Funded by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), the clinic serves both the Rohingya refugees and the host community.
