Rapid Action Battalion has arrested 10 members of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), including its leader, during separate operations in Narayanganj and Mymensingh while the group was holding secret meetings to plan subversive activities.

Six of the arrested individuals have been granted a 10-day remand for questioning in two separate cases.

The arrested members are identified as Ataullah, also known as Abu Ammar Jununi, 48, Mostak Ahmed, 66, Salimullah, 27, Moniruzzaman, 24, from Mymensingh, Asmat Ullah, 40, Mohammad Hasan, 43, Asmaul Hosna, 23, a 15-year-old boy from Arakan, Shahina, 22, and a 17-year-old girl.

Among them, Moniruzzaman had been residing in Siddhirganj’s Bhumi Palli area, while Salimullah, Shahina, and the 17-year-old girl had been living in the 4th Rohingya Camp in Cox’s Bazar's Ukhiya.

Ataullah, the leader of the ARSA group, is known to have been involved in various criminal activities, including issuing orders for the assassination of the prominent Rohingya leader Muhibullah, according to court testimonies from four arrested suspects. Ataullah is also accused in the murder case of Squadron Leader Rizwan Rushdi, an officer of the DGFI, in a joint anti-drug operation on the Naikhyangchhari border in Bandarban.

On Tuesday afternoon, the arrested individuals were brought before Senior Judicial Magistrate Moinuddin Kadir’s court in Narayanganj. After a hearing, the court granted a 10-day remand for the six suspects, five days each in two separate cases. No remand was requested for the remaining four women and minors.

The arrests took place after RAB-11 launched coordinated operations on March 16 and 17 based on intelligence about secret meetings. Six individuals were arrested from Siddhirganj’s Bhumi Palli area, and four others were apprehended from Mymensingh’s New Bazar Garden City area. During the operation, authorities seized Tk 21,39,100 in cash, a knife, a steel chain with sharp teeth, and four wristwatches. Following the arrest, RAB filed two separate cases under anti-terrorism and illegal entry laws.

Public Prosecutor Khorshed Alam Mollah confirmed that the arrests were made while the group was plotting subversive activities to damage the state's image and cause harm through espionage. He further mentioned that the suspects had entered Bangladesh illegally without passports or visas, with the potential to engage in unlawful activities.

In the case details, it was stated that the group had been holding secret meetings to plan criminal acts and subversive activities in various parts of the country. After further investigations, the court granted the remand to uncover their intentions.

Narayanganj Court Police Inspector, Kaiyum Khan, confirmed that two separate cases had been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Foreign Act. The court granted a 10-day remand for the six suspects to investigate their arrival and activities in Bangladesh.
