The passport broker managed to evade arrest

A Rohingya woman was caught by the police while attempting to obtain Bangladeshi passport with counterfeit documents.

She was apprehended at the local passport office in Munshiganj around 4pm on Sunday.

The woman, Bibija, 18, was lured by one Kamrul to the passport office. However, he fled from the office, abandoning Bibija.

Bibija was caught when Halima Khatun, assistant director at the passport office suspected her and challenged her documents, which were found to be counterfeit.

Later, the woman was taken into police custody in Munshiganj police station.

"On the passport application form, her identity was written as Rumana Begum, born 1996, father Asad, permanent address Dhaka's Faridabad, and present address Parul Para of Munshiganj district," said Halima Khatun.

However, in the face of police scrutiny, the woman revealed her identity as 18-year-old Bibija, whose father Taiyab Taher was living in the Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf, Chittagong.
