Two people of Rohingya origins were detained at the Karbook bus stand in Tripura’s Gomati district on Friday while they were planning to exfiltrate to Bangladesh, officials said on Friday.
They were detained by the BSF based on secret information regarding movement of people of Rohingya origins in the Karbook area. The detained people of Rohingya origins are residents of the Rohingya refugee camp located in Cox Bazar, Bangladesh.
While searching them, the BSF recovered Indian currency, mobile and United Nations High Commission for Refugees card from their possession.
“On 1st Nov 2024 at about 1345 Hrs, on a specific information, regarding presence and movement of Rohingyas illegal Migrants in Karbook area, two Rohingyas migrants were apprehended at Karbook bus stand by BSF troops of BOP Bhatiabari under Gomati District while they were planning to exfiltrate into Bangladesh,” reads a press release issued by the BSF.
In addition, the BSF foiled different attempts of transborder smuggling along the Indo-Bangla international border in different operations and seized 1,600 kilogram of sugar and other contraband items worth over Rs 4 lakh.
A huge number of Bangladeshi and people of Rohingya origins were arrested in Agartala Railway Station and different parts of Tripura in the last few months while they were trying to board trains or vehicles out of the state.
