1,250 more Rohingya refugees taken to Bhasan Char

Another 1,250 Rohingyas have left for Noakhali's Bhasanchar from Teknaf and Ukhiya Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar.

The Rohingyas willing to go to Bhasanchar voluntarily were taken to Ukhiya Degree College grounds in Cox's Bazar by bus from various shelter camps around 11:30pm on Thursday night.

Captain of 14 Armed Police Battalion and Additional DIG MD Iqbal confirmed this information.

He said that 1,250 Rohingyas from different Rohingya camps of Ukhiya-Teknaf voluntarily left for Chittagong from Ukhiya Degree College ground to go to Bhasanchar.

From there they will go to Bhasanchar by ship. Their belongings were taken in covered vans.

Earlier in the same process, 32,000 Rohingyas went to Bhasanchar from Teknaf-Ukhia refugee camp in Cox's Bazar.

More than 1.1 million Rohingyas from Rakhine state fled to Bangladesh after being forcibly displaced from Myanmar and are living in refugee camps in Teknaf and Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar.

Most of them fled during a brutal crackdown by the Myanmar military in 2017.
