Date: 25 February 2024

Four terrorists from the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) have been taken into custody by Bangladeshi police from a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, according to Ukhia News.

The arrested rebels include Mohammed Amin (23 years old), Petan Sharif (43), Abul Kashem (33) and Syedur Rahman (25). They are all residents of Rohingya camps at Ukhia and hold important positions in the ARSA, said Amir Jafar, additional deputy inspector general of APBN battalion-8.

Jafar confirmed that four individuals are members of ARSA and they were planning to attack Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar.

The police officer during a press conference organised in the battalion office on Friday morning informed that they were arrested following a raid at Jamtoli on 22 February in the morning hours.

He also stated that the police personnel recovered five guns, one LG, 36 rifle bullets, eight bullet shells, four shotgun cartridges, three hand-made grenades, three large crackers, one walkie-talkie set, two large knives, one slingshot and two iron chains.

“The operation was conducted after receiving inputs regarding the ARSA terrorists who established a stronghold in camp-15. They possessed a significant cache of arms and ammunition with the intention to create unrest in Rohingya camps. After the arrival of Bangla police personnel, the terrorists attempted to flee. However, those four individuals were apprehended even though many managed to escape. The police team also seized weapons and ammunition from the possession of detainees," added Jafar.

"The intelligence information and admissions of detained terrorists reveal that they were planning for a major destruction in the camp," said Jafar, adding that the process of handing over the detainees was underway after registering a case at Ukhia police station.
