Myanmar border police regrets incidents in border areas: BGB

Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP) at the flag meeting has expressed sincere regret for all the recent incidents that took place in the Bangladesh-Myanmar border areas.

Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar, commanding officer of BGB-2 Battalion came up with the devolvement after the BGB-BGP flag meeting in Teknaf in Cox's Bazar today (October 30, 2022) over the recent tensions in border areas, reports our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent.

During the meeting, the two sides expressed their firm determination to perform their respective duties in a bid to maintain and peace and order, and the security of the people living in the border areas, Lt Col Iftekhar said at a press conference at the office of BGB-2 Battalion in Teknaf.

The battalion commander-level meeting started at the office of BGB-2 Battalion at 10:00am and ended around 2:50pm.

After the meeting, the seven-member Myanmar delegation returned home at 3pm. However, the Myanmar delegation did not talk to media.

Lieutenant Colonel Kao Na Yan Shoo, commanding officer of the BGP Branch No 1 of Maungdaw in Myanmar, led the seven-member Myanmar delegation while the eight-member Bangladesh delegation was led by Lt Col Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar.

In the meeting, there was a fruitful discussion on the volatile situation in the Bangladesh-Myanmar border area and preventing drug trafficking and the infiltration of Myanmar nationals into Bangladesh, said Lt Col Iftekhar.

Bangladesh has strongly protested against the flying of helicopters of Myanmar security forces through the border areas of Bangladesh, firing of small and heavy weapons in the border areas, and regarding loss of life and property, added the BGB-2 Battalion commanding officer.

On September 16, a Rohingya boy was killed and five others injured as a mortar shell fired by the Myanmar army exploded at a Rohingya Camp located at the Zero Point of the border.

On the same day, another Bangladeshi young man was seriously injured in a landmine explosion along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border at Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban.
